Big changes are coming to EU-UK trade. Where we recently introduced to you the ICS2 safety and security requirements, as of January 31, it’s the other way around. The UK wants to know upfront what goods will be imported into their country. Data like exporter, importer, EORI, and HS code details are necessary before the shipment is allowed to enter the UK.
A Safety and Security Declaration (also known as an ENS) is essentially a duplicate of almost all the data that the UK agent needs to file an import declaration. Therefore, it would be more practical for UK importers and their agents to submit these ENS declarations alongside their import filings. The challenge, however, is that the UK has not yet formally adopted this approach. As a result, for the time being, the responsibility will most likely fall on our customs department. Good thing is that from an IT and administrative standpoint, Vorex Logistics is prepared for this! Just like ICS2 this will create extra admins for all of us—so let’s work together to minimise delays!
Our key priority is to assess the operational impact throughout February. Based on these insights, we will further evaluate the actual impact and necessary next steps in our daily operations.
